It is a self-report questionnaire that asks test-takers to rate perceived self-efficacy in order to predict their coping abilities. General self-efficacy is the belief in one's competence to cope with a broad range of stressful or challenging demands, whereas specific self-efficacy is constrained to a particular task at hand. The General Self-Efficacy Scale or GSES is designed for people ages 12 and up. It is used to assess perceived self-efficacy as it pertains to adaptation abilities and coping scales for both stressful events and daily activities. Perceived self-efficacy represents an optimistic sense of personal competence that seems to be a pervasive phenomenon accounting for motivation and accomplishments in human beings. The General Self-Efficacy scale, developed to measure this construct at the broadest level, has been adapted to many languages. The psychometric properties of this instrument is examined among 19,120 participants of the General Self-Efficacy Scale: A Rasch Analysis Based on Adolescent Data Victoria Lönnfjord 1 & Curt Hagquist1 # The Author(s) 2017.

The General Self-Efficacy Scale – Schwarzer (GSES, sometimes seen GSE), designed for ages 12 and up, was created to assess perceived self-efficacy regarding coping and adaptation abilities in both daily activities and isolated stressful events.
